Hill Michael has developed a CalcTool software application that allows users to easily capture standard engineering style calculations in a professional Calculation Toolbox.

CalcTool captures user defined Calculations, Constants and even Tips and stores them in a database for easy reuse. Once a database is loaded a Navigation Tree displays the Calculations it contains, organised under the Category headings created by the user to group them. For efficient operation it allows the user to organize calculations in different databases and simply switch between them. Sharing of individual calculations between users is also easy with the Import and Export features which enable single calculations to to be transfered to or from the active database.

Existing calculations are selected from the Navigation Tree to display a form containing the input fields and output placeholders associated with the calculation. Entering values in the input fields and clicking the Perform Calculation button will display the computed output quantities. A Design Mode provides the user with a simple interface for creating input variables, screen labels, radio buttons and combo boxes for capturing inputs and screen placeholders for the output quantities with the equations defining their calculation.

The equation for a particular output quantity is created using a selection of input variables and other outputs generated by the calculation, algebraic operators, built in mathematical functions and user defined constants.

A calculator feature also allows the user to run one off calculations using the inbuilt mathematical functions, such as Rectangular to Polar, and any user defined constants. It can be invoked when designing or running a Calculation to check parts of an equation / computation.
